First and foremost, January Creative’s website was designed and created with clients in mind. Most portfolio websites tend to be developed without keeping their target market in mind. The website focuses on portfolio items, a notebook section to share articles and news, and information about the company for potential and current clients. WordPress, a blogging and content management system platform, allowed for all of this functionality mostly right out of the box. This website is an extensive one. Many features and needs had to be addressed, with different approaches to make sure it all flowed for site visitors. The portfolio needed to give adequate information for visitors to understand the role I played in projects, along with details such as what programs were used to create the works. This was created using Custom Post Types in WordPress to display custom content such as “Client Name” and “Technology.” And for the portfolio listing pages? A neat little jQuery script that allowed for the posts to fit together like bricks, something that cannot be done with CSS alone. The notebook needed to serve up articles that can be searched for and read by visitors, with the target audience being potential and current clients who want to learn about design and business. You will also see the jQuery script at work on the notebook as well to make for an interesting and unique layout for the posts.
